I got my power wheelchair just about the time the pandemic hit last year. Since I hadn’t been out in public a whole lot over the last 14 months or so, I hadn’t really used the chair much outside the comfort and familiarity of my neighborhood. Last night I ventured out into the actual world with people all around and obstacles and all that fun stuff for the first time. And I managed to do it without running anyone over…which was a coup because I drive my chair much like I used to drive a a car, which is to say not very well! A group us headed out to The District Center for the Arts in Taunton to see an awesome Bon Jovi tribute band called Living on a Bad Name. Alex Stylos, the owner of The District, and his staff were all incredibly accommodating, with Alex even seating us personally at a table front and center (which was amazing, but also left us with some ringing in our ears since we were inches from the massive speakers…but it was a good pain, so no complaints!).
The show was outside so there was some navigating to do, but all went smoothly and we had a fantastic time. The opening act, a band called Crankit, was incredibly good and got us nice and primed for a night of rock n’ roll. It felt great to be outside, watching live music, enjoying great company. And on what was a fairly cool night, a couple of glasses of Pinot kept me perfectly warm and cozy. Ken Pittman, the lead singer for Living on a Bad Name, was kind enough to take some pictures with my friend Deb and me. He’s very sweet. And wicked tall.
